AND NOW, A WORD FROM SWTHRMNY:
Written May 15, 2005:
I am currently a student at Career Step
and enjoying every minute of it.
I am married to a wonderful man, and we have not been blessed with children.
Instead we have been blessed with 4 special cats.
My background is varied. I have worked in the secretarial field since I graduated
from high school, worked for a few fast food type places, and graduated from
the University of South Florida with a BS in Music Education. I taught for 5
years and most recently drove a tractor/trailer (18-wheeler) with my husband.
My husband has been around trucks all his life and felt that it would be great
to share the one thing he loved the most with the one person he loved the most....me.
:) I have always joked with him that his teething ring was a truck tire
and his pacifier was a valve stem.
We drove together for 3 wonderful years, until we had a serious accident in
July of 2003. I was rudely awakened to my husband braking and yelling and, the
next thing, to him calling my name. The truck had rolled onto the driver’s side
and had slid for I don't know how many feet. He was very fortunate and only
received a bad bruise on his left leg from the window crank. I was not as fortunate
and received a broken neck and a serious concussion. Since then, I have been
recovering, but driving is now a thing of the past. (Can’t take the beating
the truck gives you going down the road.) The accident did not leave me paralyzed,
but I have some disabilities resulting from that accident--hence, the reason
for the job change and going to Career Step.
I am looking forward to my new life as a medical transcriptionist and being
able to help my husband out with the day-to-day needs of being an owner-operator
of a tractor-trailer.
On a side note, I thought you would like to know the history of my name. Because
my husband is a truck driver, I, of course, had to have a handle for the CB.
I asked my husband about this and he came up with the following: Sweet--because
he says I am so sweet--and Harmony-–because of my music (I was going to school
to be a music teacher at the time). Personally, I think he was thinking that
we make “sweet harmony together.” (Except of course when we fight--then it becomes
a discord. :) Not long after that, I started using AOL, and at that time, you
were limited to how many characters you could use; it was 9 at the time. So
I took out the vowels, and now you have SwtHrmny.
That’s me in a nutshell…take it or leave it.
